KcHecKa: SpoOkyGames has created a pretty good FAQ which can be found here. If you have any questions about StepMania Online or just (StepMania in general), I suggest checking here first before asking in the Chat.

In regards to individual files

We'll probably have to add a disclaimer somewhere in the future, but for now I believe a front page post will clear up a lot of confusion. After seeing this exact same question asked so many times over the last couple weeks, hopefully this will be far more noticeable.

How do I get single files?
Well my inquisitive little reader, the answer is you can't (at least from SMO anyway). As I'm sure your next question is why you can't get them from here, let me explain with a quick list:

1) Single files are exceedingly difficult to use while playing with others online. Having a pack of files guarantees other players a usable set-list of files to choose from.

2) Single files are exceedingly difficult to keep track of in large quantities, and are difficult to differentiate versions of. Packs are already difficult to maintain, but are considerably easier to obtain and showcase. It's far easier to differentiate similar files by pack than by most any other feature (for example, Emerald Sword from HSMP8 compared to another pack, as opposed to probably triple digit numbers of single release versions).

3) SM packages are how the majority of communities who play choose to release files. Packs are a standard format for both personal and community projects, and as such, is how I receive the files I obtain and upload here. Although single releases are also common, they are not nearly as well received or played as SM packages. In conjunction with the above reasons, this is enough for me to ignore them for the moment.

Is there anywhere else I can get single files?
Yes there is! There is a website which hosts files you can download individually called Zenius-I-Vanisher. It's probably the largest currently available database for these types of files, so check it out if you are interested!

As a pad player, you can download individual files from certain packs here. Keep in mind that almost all of these still come from packs however, and you should probably just download the entire thing if you plan to play with others on SMO with that sort of content.

Hopefully this has answered your questions, though you can always send me a message or leave a post on the forums if you need any additional help!
