It seems that if I go to Options > Calibrate Audio Sync while logged in, the SMO server crashes. Of course, this could also be a series of weird coincidences. I'm running StepMania5.0-git-108b297 on Debian Jessie x64.
Repro steps:
1. Start StepMania
2. Log in to SMO as usual.
3. Return to Options, go to Input Options > Calibrate Audio Sync.
Expected behavior:
The user should be able to sync while the other players can keep on playing.
Actual behavior:
The server crashes, all users are disconnected, and the user syncing also sees "Connection to server dropped" message in their sync screen.
Workaround:
To not crash the server, the user must first disconnect from the SMO server, then sync, and then re-connect.

Re: Calibrating sync crashes server
This is actually a known issue. (Well, SM5 wise... Server wise, I never actually tried that.) As the devs explained it to me, the game itself stops responding but generally does not crash. I know on windows you can stop the freeze. As for linux, no idea.
As far as the server is concerned, yeah, this should be fixed. (if even possible.) Hopefully, SM6 will fix this issue at some point though.

Yeah.... have known about this for along time. Basically don't do it for now, from the server side its tricky to fix this. I can see in the logs who causes the crash though. Easy way to get yourself banned is to do this on purpose. Thanks for reporting it though

Re: Calibrating sync crashes server
I cannot seem to reproduce this issue anymore on windows. (the stop responding part.) As for crashing the server, i did some testing with cube and I think he fixed it at some point. (somehow or another.) I will still recommend NOT doing this though. Just in case it happens again though...
